Don’t Throw Flowers Away!
By: David Clark
Director of Sales

The spring season is around the corner with Easter, Administrative Professional’s Day, and Mother’s Day fast approaching. In general, these holidays usually add up to lucrative business for the floral industry. These holidays are great for profits, but who wouldn’t want those sales to be more lucrative? Here is a tip that is easy to implement, doesn’t take a lot of time and can skyrocket your fresh flower investments.

How many flowers do you throw away everyday because they are too short, broken, or just not quite perfect? You don’t have to throw them out. You can actually use these flowers to create sales and increase profits!

Fill a small cooler bucket, container or vase with preservative solution and place it near your design work station. We’ll call this your “eclectic bouquet bucket.” Throughout the day put those mis-cuts, short- stems, or odd pieces into the container.

At the end of the day, transform those flowers from the eclectic bouquet bucket into sellable merchandise – mini bouquets! Mini or petite vases are a perfect solution for the left over stems. You can find several options from your hard goods supplier ranging from 3-5” in height and generally having about a 2” opening. The No. 4014 garden miniature assortment is just one suggestion that can make any mini bouquet look beautiful. You will be surprised at how many mini bouquets you can make while you watch your profit grow.

Mini-bouquets are perfect as a single display in your cooler or even on end-caps (instant pick-up sales!) at the register. With the spring holidays just around the corner, mini bouquets offer the perfect quick gift that is affordable, transportable, and easy to purchase. Additionally, the mini bouquets make sense as a single purchase or purchased in multiples. They look great alone and make quite a statement when grouped together on a table.

As a father of three, a trip to the grocery is not uncommon as an outing. I can almost guarantee we will be heading to the local store the week of Mother’s Day. Not only will I need to pick up some flowers and a card, but all three of my children will definitely be thinking of what to give mom. The mini bouquets are perfect and will not cost dads an arm and a leg to let each kid buy their own floral arrangement.

This is an idea you can implement today. It makes sense, saves money and creates a value for your customers! Turn your throw-aways into the perfect mini bouquet for all spring occasions.
